How Important are your friends?

Great Afternoon on this February 2, 2012  I have enjoyed the last few days this week.  Pastor Joy and I have had the wonderful opportunity to have our Grandson Nehemiah stay with us as his parents, our daughter and son in Law have been out of town.  I am learning the fine art of 1^st grade humor once again,  the art of playing battleship and of course the shuttle service that comes along with the assignment.  As I have heard it said; if I would have known how fun it was to have grand kids I would have started with them…It really makes me wonder where the time has gone in our own lives.  The older I get the more I realize the importance of friends and family.  The friends the Lord puts into our lives are priceless.  I have witnessed a cool phenomenon in the body of Christ as I watch people in the church develop friends at different levels.  Some on a social level, some on a hobby level some on a spiritual level but all under the banner of the body of Christ.  We need friends, I want friends.  I was recently in Nampa for a meeting, a city where I had spent the last 12 years in the business sector.  You often wonder if the people we have associated with in the past are our friends or just acquaintances. At the conclusion of the meeting a pastor friend and I went to dinner at a local restaurant.  We had just finished dinner when I looked up and saw an old friend.  He quickly seated his wife and family and raced over to our table greet us. I introduced my pastor friend and I quickly ask him what exciting things were happening in his life.  He had been transferred out of the area for the last few years and was now back in Nampa working for a company that sells medical supplies.  I told him I too had a change since the last time we spoke for I was Pastoring a great church in Burley. I mentioned that we needed to reconnect for we were in the final stages of launching a free medical clinic in the Mini-Cassia area and needed assistance with Medical supplies.  He was quick to mention that he would be able to help us out in a great way.  I walked away from this meeting rejoicing due to the fact God does use people to fulfill His purpose.  I was also rejoicing in the fact that I had never burnt a bridge of relationships in the business world.  Regardless how rocky a business relationship was, I refused to burn bridges.  My philosophy was and is:  I would rather have a friend than take the world approach of getting all you can from a person, for they are disposable.  I want to challenge you to take this path regardless of how rocky or rosy the situation is.  There are souls in the balance between heaven and hell.  I choose heaven every time regardless of my personal feelings. Yes, I have been taken advantage of numerous times because of this perspective but I refuse to bow, cower or stoop to the ways of the world when it comes to relationships.  We need one another.  

Several testimonies have surfaced this as we continue to believe God for greatness. One young family told me that they made a commitment to be blessed and be a blessing in the area of giving and tithing.  They had just enough this last month to tithe so as they wrote the check, balanced the check book they had $.68 left. To their amazement the tax return they was expecting was multiplied that allowed them to pay some long overdue medical bills.  There is another cool story of a couple who had made a commitment to tithe to the Lord and how God had a surprise gift of a check in the mail that was more than their tithe.  As I have said in the past, the Pastor and church does not want our money.  The Lord Does not want our money either, However He wants our Heart and because He has our heart he has our all, included our money. It all belongs to Him any way…

Several things this weekend to look forward to:

Pre-registration for the Men’s retreat this weekend  The cost is $135.00 the dates are February 24-26  If you are a man… have hair on your legs…and would love to get away for a great weekend with some Brothers in the Lord.  This event is for you.  It will be held in Cascade Idaho at the Trinity Pines Camp ground…  There are some scholarships available.

This Sunday February 5^th  at 4:00 p.m. the Men’s Ministry will host a Super Bowl Tail Gate Party.  This event is open to all and will be a good time to watch the New York Giants get beat…..This will be a scholarship fund raiser for men’s retreat.  Come on out.  A suggested donation will be appreciated. 

I will be preaching perhaps the best message I have ever preached this weekend as we begin a journey in February through the book of Matthew.  I will be focusing on Matthew 1-6.  There are 16 topics to choose from in these few chapters.  I will focus on 3 of them.  Come expecting a miracle this weekend. 

Some other really cool things are planned with our Christian Education Department on Wednesday’s.  On February 15^th we will show case the new Wednesday format for the next 13 weeks.  One of which is Peace University with Dave Ramsey.  Are you burdened with debt, can’t see up from down?  This class will be for you… Other classes are Pastor Joy will be hosting ladies only class as well as I will be hosting a discipleship class.  Wow it will be a great time for all.  I can’t wait.  Oh one thing we are working on is a makeup time with the Love and Respect class for those who missed any sessions. 

Ok in case you haven’t heard we  are offering prayer times for Men, each Wednesday morning at 7:00 a.m. and will be hosting a time of corporate Prayer each Saturday  evening at 6:00 p.m. for all….. Jesus said my house shall be called a house of prayer.  This starts this Saturday February 4^th in the sanctuary.

Miracles are For Today

Good Morning on this January 12, 2012.

Hey several things this week that are going on that I want to let you know about.  First and foremost is that God loves you and has a plan for your life.  I spoke last week about choices.  The choices we make today will affect our lives and the lives of our family for generations.  During our Sacred Assembly time I challenged Mvcc and all believers to do several things, to develop a regular time of Prayer and Fasting utilizing Isaiah 58:6 as a pattern and reason for fasting, secondly to believe God with all that we have and develop a lifestyle of Tithing, and thirdly make ourselves ready to be  God’s hand extended in the area of Miracles.  Many really cool God stories are coming forth.  I received a call this week from several who have started praying on a regular basis and how God is answering prayers already.  We are taking this area of prayer to a new level at MVCC.  On Wednesday mornings I am committed to teach Men How to pray.  Within the last two weeks we have had numerous men that come to the church   at 7:00 a.m. to pray.  The testimonies that coming forth is nothing short of miraculous as God is answering prayers.  Keep it up Guys and spread the word.  The Wednesday morning times will continue as the Lord is leading in a cool direction.  I will keep you posted as to what is on the horizon with this time.  Another call I received this week had to do with Tithing.   During our Sacred Assembly we put forth a 90 day commitment to tithe.  There is only one area in the Bible where God says “TRY ME” and it deals with tithing (10%).  I received a call this week from a family who said they really believed God and put him to the test.  They tithed activating their faith last Sunday knowing they had other obligations that would have to wait.  On Monday the phone rings with an excited voice on the other end telling me of the story, the excitement was coming forth as he explained how God had already come through and blessed the family with more that the tithe check was written for unexpectedly.  God Honors His word!!!! I encourage you to “Attack Your Lack”, and put God to the test in the area of your finances.  If you have not already done so make a commitment to be a giver.  Go to the web site WWW.mountainviewchristiancenter.info  and download the message on Blessed to be a Blessing (Sacred Assembly Part 3).  Get ready to be blessed.  The third challenge was miracles. This last Sunday I saw a man whom I had never had the opportunity to meet.  As I was at the door greeting after 2^nd service I introduced myself and he told me his name.  I recognized his name from the communication cards as his son was putting his father’s name and need on the prayer section of the card each week.  His father had cancer and was not expected to live.  Well this was the man we had been believing the Lord would Heal. He told me he HAD to come to the house of God to give thanks for all the prayers as he was “Cancer Free” God had healed him.  With tears streaming down his face, his sons face my face, Pastor Steve’s face we stopped and gave thanks.  We serve a God of Miracles.  This is why we have you each week fill out the communication cards with your prayer needs on them.  We do pray for the needs each week during staff meeting.  What do you believe the Lord for?  Keep the faith.

We have begun the New Year in the area of Christian Education with a great start.  We have several new teachers and classes you won’t want to miss.  Pastor Steve and Susan Isaak started a Christian Basics Class, Matt and Janin Wright started a “Young Professionals” class, as well with several New teachers on board, Jennifer and mom Gail Gallegos and Barry and Dawn Robinson are teaching new Kids classes.  Thanks Guys….

Our mid week services are “Off the Hook “exciting.  It always starts with a Free Meal at 6:00 p.m. (donations accepted and appreciated)  then off to the classes we are offering at 7:00.  Currently we are offering Love and Respect  taught by Rick and Shawna Kraus and a Bible class taught by Rick Molina.  Come be a part.  We have just set the classes for our next session which includes “Peace University, Dave Ramsey,  I will be teaching a class on Understanding the Bible, and  Joy will be teaching Ladies Discipleship.  These classes will start February 22^nd.  Watch for details and signup sheets.

We have our Next Food Give A Way planned.  On Tuesday January 17^th  at 9:00 a.m.  We need your help.  If you can help with this event please call the church office 208-678-5460 and let our office staff know you are available.  (ALL HANDS ON DECK). 

A really cool ministry we are starting is “Pizza with the Pastor”.  This is designed to welcome all our new family members to a fun informative time where we get to tell our story of who we are, our mission, methods and values, what we believe and more.  This is the first step in getting involved at Mountain View.  The lunch is scheduled for  January 29^th.  There will be a sign up sheet at the information Center on Sunday.  Space is limited so sign up Sunday..

Hey, Guys our Annual Trek to the Mountains for our Men’s Retreat is right around the corner.  February 24-26^th is the date you will want to mark on your calendar, let your boss know you need the weekend off.  I emailed the flier to numerous ones this week.  The cost for the weekend is $135.00 if we get registered by February 7^th.  The Men’s ministry is planning a fund raiser on February 5^th for scholarships, yes this is Super bowl Sunday, be watching for details.  Plan to attend the Retreat this year. 

This Sunday January 15^th  you are in for a real Treat as our Former Pastor and current Superintendent Doyle and Julia Fulkes will be with us for both Sunday morning Services at 9 & 11 a.m. be sure to invite a friend to service this week.  He will be preaching on Joseph in the Book of Genesis.  You won’t want to miss it.

How God Relates Himself to a Moth

Greetings on this Your Thursday Blast for January 5, 2011.  This is your First of many blasts this year.  2012 is going to be a great year.  Last week I posted on face book 20 Extreme words that I believe we will see this Year, Pull up my site on face book or go to MVCCav on You tube and play it if you haven’t look at it already.  Yes, 2012 will be a year of Extremes.  I choose to take the positive spin on the word and look to the God of Extremes in the positive.  Extreme Faith, Grace, Mercy, Provision, and the Presence of God!  Make a choice to make it a great year. 

We started the year with our Sacred Assembly, a time of worship, prayer, fasting, and pressing in to what the Lord is saying to the Church and us individually.  Sunday evening our topic was “Repentance”, as the congregation humbled ourselves and sought God’s Repentance.  Monday evening our topic was “The Holy Spirit”, a time of soaking in the presence of God and allowing Him to speak, fill, refill, renew, restructure, and remodel us.  On Tuesday evening our topic was “Giving, Blessing and being a Blessing”.  This is a message I want all to hear.  We are attempting to make the audio version on Cd available for all.  We will have it available on the Web site as well as the other messages soon.  On Wednesday our topic was “Miracles”, what a glorious presence of God that filled the airwaves with Faith, Hope and Salvation.  Many were touched, strengthened and set free by the Power of God.  I just spoke with one family that said “we came to do business with God and it was accomplished”.  I heard this over and over throughout the week.  In the midst of the greatness, the Lord specifically told me to begin a Wednesday a.m. prayer time each week with the emphasis of teaching Men to Pray.  We had 7 men show up this last Wednesday and we prayed for an hour, following Jesus example of, “Could you not tarry for an hour”.  What the Lord spoke to me was, “the fastest way to get a man on his feet is to first get a man on his knees”.  So each Wednesday morning at 7:00 a.m. -8:00 a.m. come and join us for a time of prayer.

The food ministry of Mountain View Christian Center continues to grow as do the needs.  The Mvcc food bank team just shared with me the amount of people that relied upon our assistance this last year that either attended our Monthly food distribution  or our Big events, like the fish give a ways are you ready for this.  In the year of 2011:   39,745 people came for assistance , we gave away  754,000 pounds of food, these are staggering numbers  but shows the real need people are in.  We see on a weekly basis families that come through the doors of the church, they have a job but not enough hours are given to them,  professional people who drive nice cars that HAD a decent job but with cut backs are scrapping by, make a house payment or eat.  We are able to help all regardless of race, religion, color or creed, or social economic status, NO Strings attached!.  Love God, Serve People.  The amount of support our ministry is receiving is nothing short of Miraculous.  Thank you to our Donors, both private and Corporate.  Yes, we are making a difference.  If you would like to volunteer your time with the food ministry please call the office and talk to Chris Bean. 

I was reading this last week and saw something I had never noticed in scripture.  In the Book of Hosea the prophet is speaking the Word of the Lord and equates God to a Moth, and then a few verses later he equates God to a Lion. Hosea 5:12-14 The Lord was speaking to Israel to get their attention because of their rebellion.  I have been trying to wrap my mind around the correlation between God and a Moth. This is what I come up with.  When we as God’s children and the church are beginning to stray in our thoughts, attitudes or actions the gentleness of the Holy Spirit deals with us as a moth, that furry creature that would not hurt us only get our attention.  The times around the camp fire, when the moths are everywhere but will not hurt us.  They might find a place to nest in our wool sweaters, but they will not bite.   They do get our attention but because of their persistence.  God waits so patiently for us when we begin to stray but eventually we either grow cold to the moth or swat it away.  If we swat it away or ignore it He then sends the Lion notice the verse in Hosea.  I don’t know about you but I am often hard headed and at times don’t pay attention to the moth, but when the Lion shows himself I am more prone to listen and quick to repent.  In the scripture Israel eventually is brought to a place of restoration.  What will it take for you a Moth or a Lion to get your attention? 

This weekend at Mountain View I will be preaching on Genesis 12-26 and focus on Isaac.  Be sure to Read these portions of scripture to make yourself familiar with the message.  We are faced with choices all the time; we will make good ones and bad ones.  What do we do if we make a bad decision?  Come Sunday and find out.  This Sunday we are also starting fresh with several New Sunday School classes and teachers.  Pastor Steve and Susan Isaac as well as Mat & Janin Wright are starting a new Class.  Pastor Steve and Susan will focus on renewing & reconnecting our relationship with God, Mat and Janin will focus on the Young Professionals and finding God in the midst of Life, we are working on some new classes for our kids as well, stay tuned.  This is Home group week so get ready to be invited to a home group near you.  Also we are having a Baptism service after second service.  If you have not been baptized or have a desire to follow the Lord In Baptism there will be a short informational meeting in room 17 between 1^st and second service.   Come experience Jesus this weekend at Mountain View Christian Center, when you come don’t forget to invite a friend to come with you.

Look what the Lord Has done

Greetings on This your Weekly Blast Thursday November 24, 2011.   I trust you all are setting down relaxing on this Thanksgiving 2011. 

This last week was a Huge week for Mountain View Christian Center.  On Tuesday November 15^th, 2011  we had our Monthly food giveaway in which we gave food boxes to 302 families. The wind was blowing, it was cold but the team came together and made it happen.  We then looked to one of the largest events Mountain View ever has endeavored. Our goal was to collect and give out 2000 coats, collect enough food to make a Thanksgiving box for 1500 families, host a job service, host seniors assistance programs plus have available Children Identification Kits.  Well we were close when all the dust settled.  We gave away 1700 coats, 1400 families received a food box to include a Turkey  or Whole Chicken, fresh potatoes, frozen or dried potatoes, yogurt, ice cream, & cookies and various other nutritious items, plus numerous job opportunities were presented to the community as well as Senior Adult assistance.   We want to say Thank you to all the corporate and private donors of food and coats and of course a huge Thank you to all the volunteers who helped in various ways.  This event we had in excess of 200 volunteers who assisted with smiles, hugs, packing groceries to cars, parking, security, registration, handing out food, coffee carts, hospitality, set up and clean up and more.  We did it Mountain View Christian Center. 

I was thinking this morning of all the transformation that has taken place at MVCC in the last couple of years.  A church that had 3 pastors in 10 years, a church split, numerous hurts fractions and complications to the church we are now is nothing short of miraculous.  However it does come with some pain.  The pain of; we have to protect, we have to control to make sure to…. To the loss of self control and give God control.  I am reminded of the Matthew 9:16-18¹⁶ No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse. ¹⁷ Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.” 

The change that has been required for Mountain View Christian Center to do and keep doing requires the grace and mercy of God and a tremendous amount of trust, faith and confidence in the Lord.  We as a body of Believers with the mission statement of Love God, Serve People must have a new “wine skin” to be able to handle all that God wills to do through the Church and community.  You may ask how do I do that,  We serve a God of the New.  He is able to take out the heart of stone and replace it with a new pliable heart of understanding, forgiveness and grace.  Ask Him now,  Ephesians 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

Let us allow the Lord to do Just that,  Exceeding, Abundantly above All we can ask or think…….

Greater things are Yet to come..

Greetings on this Thursday  November 17, 2011.  As many of you may know in my previous life just a few short years ago I was in  the Real Estate business and had the honor of serving as the President of the Nampa, Idaho association of realtors.  It was when the economy saw no sign of slowing.  We all know today is a much different scenario.  As I walked through those years of greatness I never forgot where I came from.  I am a child of God, born of His Spirit and did everything in my power to exemplify the attributes of Christ.  I had a philosophy of reaching the unreachable, touch the untouchable, and dream the un dream able.  My thought, as I led this organization was to empower people to dream, reach, achieve and serve.   My mind races to current date.  I received a call from a former colleague last week who was going through a tough time.  A recent family split up, Disinagration of business, hopelessness had set in.  In the midst of his dilemma, drama and problems he remembered that I was a man of faith that represented not only a Godly business model but lived a Godly life and remembered something I had told him years ago.  He told me of his situation and asks me to pray for him. I did and then pointed him to a church and pastor who would be able to assist him further.  Often times the drama of life restricts the heavenly flow of creativity and takes the wind out of our sails and steals the dreams from our lives.  Child of God, you can reach the unreachable, touch the untouchable, and dream the Un dream able and achieve the unachievable through a relationship with Christ.  One of my favorite sayings is this, “You are an over comer, not to be overcame”.  As we enter into the weeks ahead of the Holiday season, Thanksgiving, Christmas, family gatherings, it does one of two things.  A time of joy or sorrow.  I would like to encourage you in the same vein as I did the business community to dream, reach, achieve and serve.  Speaking about serving.  This week on Tuesday we had another successful food give away to the community.  We served a food box to 302 families.  What an awesome opportunity we have to actually do our mission statement, not just read it and or talk about it . “ LOVE GOD SERVE PEOPLE”.  A huge thank you to our Mountain View Food Pantry director Chris Bean and our Logistics director Craig Byce and the host of volunteers that helped make this a wonderful monthly event.   Speaking of events, this Sunday November 20^th we will be having a Thanksgiving extravaganza Food give away, as we have 3 partners here;  Idaho Food Bank, MVCC Food Pantry & South Central Community Action, plus a  Coat give away, Job fair, finger printing for the Kids and a whole lot of fun all this begins at 1:00.

This Weekend  I will be preaching on the book of 2 John, 13 verses that deals with the early church and how to love one another and watch out for false teaching.  You won’t want to miss this message.  It could be the longest or shortest sermon ever preached.  Those of you who attend the first service if you could help after service setting up for the giveaway, I would be so grateful.  Those of you who attend the second service I will have you out of service by 12:30 (I hope) so we can have a quick bite of lunch provided by our own chef Richard Sizemore (hot dogs and hamburgers) and then if you can help fill Food boxes, deliver groceries to cars or help with the coats.  We plan to begin the event  at 1:00 P.m. so it will be a bit crazy for a bit.  For all of you who are staying;  Please Park in the West Parking Lot.  If you are planning to volunteer, Please bring  warm clothes & gloves. After your service you will need to check in with Craig Byce to get your Volunteer Vest and instructions.  This will also be Name Tag Sunday so be sure to get yours in the foyer prior to your service.

Mountain View Christian Center September 16,2011

Greetings the week of September 16, 2011.      As I was setting down to write this on my regular Thursday my life was interrupted as Pastor Joy was admitted to the Emergency room with severe abdominal pain.  She had the flue last week and she thought it was still lingering.  However the pain was so great she could not handle it anymore.  The Dr.’s drew blood, x-rayed her stomach   and determined that a bowel obstruction was present.  It has been a painful venture but thanks to a lot of prayer and great professionals at Cassia Memorial Hospital she is on the road to recovery.  

 Another Great week here at Mountain View Christian Center. This was the first full week having Dan Hendricks our New Family Life worship Pastor with us in the office.  His presence is a breath of fresh air in the office and on campus.  We are still refining his full portfolio of duties, at this point it is playing catch up.  One area he is working on is our intern program. We have been in contact with the college of Southern Idaho audio visual department and offered an opportunity for a student to learn, grow, teach and excel in this department.  The college has been very supportive with the concept and has opened the opportunity to students.  We will have at least one student on campus this weekend that will begin the journey.  It is a great opportunity for MVCC as well as the College of Southern Idaho.   Speaking of opportunities.  We have been challenged with filling a full time Nursery Director.  I have great news to report that the position has been filled.  We will now have staff in the Nursery at all our regular services on Wednesday evenings, Friday evenings and Sunday at both services.  Congratulations to Kerry Zemke as she joins the team at MVCC as the Nursery/Jr. Church coordinator. 

At a recent executive leadership meeting we reviewed some short term and long term opportunities at MVCC.  We have a tremendous amount of things going on all the time at the present campus site.  In an effort to facilitate all the opportunities we have currently going on I delegated to the Executive team areas of responsibility.  We want to remodel the kitchen into a fully Certified Commercial facility.  We have plans for “Home groups”.  I have commissioned Rick Molina the task of fulfilling these objectives.  We are in the process of designing a Food Pantry Warehouse complete with Freezer/cooler compatibility.  I have commissioned John Gerrard this task.  We want to pave the remainder of the parking lot before winter.  I have commissioned Ron Setser this task.  We will be fiscally responsible in each of these areas and commissioned Darrin Preece and the finance committee the oversight of the budget.  In each of these areas it will take a team of like minded individuals.  If you are interested in helping please see one of the Executive committee.  On the building note, we have heard back from Qwest on the building beside the MVCC campus, they have accepted another offer, so we will put into full action building a facility on our property. 

We have some great tings planned in the very near future.  On October 26^th at 7:00 p.m. we will begin a Community wide Marriage Enrichment series entitled, “Love and Respect”.   There will be no cost for the class; however a book will be available for purchase.  The work book cost will be approximately $15.00 each.  What a great investment and opportunity into the future of our Church family and Community. 

Another upcoming opportunity will be the Next food/ Coat give away.  We are planning a grand event around Thanksgiving.  We will let you know for sure soon as to the particulars but I know this will be the Largest event we have ever facilitated.  Please begin praying.

Our Celebrate recovery team continues to hit it out of the park.  Their great organizational, leadership and sponsor team will be hosting an Open house September 23^rd at 6:00 p.m.  The team was features in the recent publication of “The Voice”.  We are so proud of our Team. 

Let me preach at you for a minute on Leadership with a few one liners. (“From Leadership gold”, John Maxwell).

I will be preaching on the Book of 1Timothy this weekend. It is filled with church leadership principles, instructions and guidance.  If there is any doubt in your mind if MVCC is following the biblical leadership model this service will be for you.  We have a team of Leaders (Deacons) that would do anything for the body they serve.  I addition they are a great support and help for me.  I know they would respond to any need I present them with.   As well they make sure Pastor Joy and I am taken care of.  It is comforting to know we are not alone in this Kingdom service.   Ok I’m done for this week.  Hope to see you on Sunday and don’t forget to invite a friend to service.
